One Sea, One Standard Summit
Bringing search and rescue organisations together around a shared training standard.
Across the Mediterranean, many humanitarian organisations work to save lives at sea. Volunteers often serve with more than one organisation, yet crews are trained in different ways and to different benchmarks. When rescues are carried out at speed and under pressure, those differences matter.
The One Sea, One Standard Summit, convened by Atlantic Pacific, brings these organisations together to agree a common approach to training. When crews from different organisations train to the same benchmark, they can work together more safely and more effectively, and volunteers can move between organisations without having to retrain.
Why a shared standard
- Safer operations: crews who share the same procedures and terminology can work together with confidence, on the water and in casualty care.
- Greater effectiveness: a common training baseline allows organisations to deploy volunteers more quickly and to share personnel when needs arise.
- Better use of resources: organisations can share training materials and expertise rather than developing them separately.
The first summit
The first One Sea, One Standard Search & Rescue Summit took place from 6 to 9 November 2025 at UWC Atlantic in South Wales. It brought together representatives of the following organisations working in maritime search and rescue:
