Start an AP Club

Small club. Big waves.

Start an AP Club at your school, college or university and help prevent drowning, one fundraiser and one conversation at a time. Your club can be as small as three friends. What matters is starting.

What an AP Club does

  • Raise: run fundraisers at your school, college or university. Every £1,295 your club raises can send a young person to Junior Summer Camp.
  • Educate: share water safety messages with your classmates, younger students and your community, using ready-made materials from Atlantic Pacific’s Institute of Humanitarian Action.
  • Connect: join a growing network of AP Clubs across the UK and beyond, sharing ideas and celebrating together.

Every club is different: do as much or as little as works for your group.

Fundraising ideas

  • Sweet-grams: at Valentine’s Day or Christmas, sell a sweet with a note, delivered to a friend’s class.
  • Non-uniform or fancy-dress day: everyone pays a small amount to swap their uniform for the day.
  • Bake sale or bake-off: sell homemade treats at break, or charge entry and ask teachers to judge.
  • Sponsored swim, walk or run: friends and family sponsor you per length or per mile.
  • Quiz night or talent show: sell tickets and refreshments.
  • Charity tuck shop: run a stall at break or lunch, with the profit going to Atlantic Pacific.
  • The AP Ten: in June, during Drowning Prevention Week, take on 10 events, 10 days of activity, or £10 from every member.

Spread the word

  • Assemblies and talks: present water safety to your year group or a younger school, using ready-to-deliver presentations with speaker notes.
  • Social media: share Atlantic Pacific’s water safety tips and your club’s events, tagging us and using #AP10 #TrainTodaySaveTomorrow.
  • Awareness days: link your events to key dates, such as World Drowning Prevention Day on 25 July.
  • Meet AP: visit our base at the Royal Docks in London, or invite an Atlantic Pacific trainer to speak at your school or university.

What your club receives

  • A free starter pack and water safety materials
  • A new action pack every school term
  • A founding-club certificate for our first clubs
  • Skills and experience for your CV and university applications

Clubs that raise a full Junior Summer Camp place can name it after their club, or after someone they want to honour.

How to start your club

  1. Check with your institution: find out when and where you can meet, and how to recruit members. At university, this usually means registering through your students’ union.
  2. Register with Atlantic Pacific: sign up your club for free, and we will send your starter pack and put you in touch with a contact at AP.
  3. Plan your first event: pick one easy idea, set a target and a date, and share your results with us.

Fundraise safely

  • Check your institution’s rules, including how money should be collected and handled.
  • Never collect money on your own or door to door.
  • Only hold sponsored swims and water activities with qualified supervision.
  • Keep personal details private online, and ask before sharing photos of others.
  • Check the rules before running any raffle or lottery.
